Hundertwasser's comment on the work

Near Tunis, in the fantastic village of Sidi Bou Said, way up north with a view of the sea in the direction of Europe, the beginning of the mouth-boats. Finished it in Taormina, just as wonderful a place in Sicily which looks towards Africa. The houses are partly Arab-Tunesian blue, partly Sicilian-European of red-fired brick. Like all watercolours I did while travelling, this one was also folded twice, so each time I painted I could only see a quarter of the picture. In this way I could paint "lap top". When I unfolded it, wherever I found a big table, I was always very surprised at the contrast and nonetheless the unity of the four separately painted parts.
