On the occasion of Bernd Lötsch's 85th Birthday

Hundertwasser's friend and companion of the road is still active as an “advocate for nature”. He was general director of the Natural History Museum in Vienna for fifteen years. 

Environmental protection connected the biologist and the artist, regardless of whether it was about urban ecology, plant purification systems or the preservation of the Danube floodplains near Hainburg (Austria). In 1984 Hundertwasser dedicated his original poster “HAINBURG - Free Nature Is Our Freedom” to the protection of the floodplains.

He supported the diverse activities and initiatives of Bernd Lötsch with donations. The "Naturfreikauf", an initiative by Bernd Lötsch, as President of the Donauauen National Park Planning, played a decisive role. It was the initiative's goal to buy up unique biotope islands and eco-cells along the Danube as the first building blocks for a Danube national park in Lower Austria, thereby preventing the construction of a water power plant, and saving the last natural riverbeds in Germany. 

With his very personal commitment, in-depth knowledge and sensitivity, Bernd Lötsch continues to do a lot for environmental protection.
