Hundertwasser lives on in his works, his architecture, his philosophy – and each day thousands of people experience his message of beauty in harmony with nature as well as his paintings in current exhibitions and manifestos, texts in many book publications. Hundertwasser’s approaches to shaping our future are more than ever demanded. He emphatically formulated his ideas of a life in harmony with nature, the greening of cities, a waste-free society and the restoration of natural cycles and wrote a Peace Treaty with Nature.
As part of the digitisation project of the Hundertwasser Archive, a large number of documentary photos were scanned. These can be viewed at the following link: https://www.hundertwasser.com/en/biography/photo_gallery
This photograph shows Hundertwasser during a tree planting action in Oslo in 1983. The aim was to draw the public's attention to the dangerous effects of acid rain on nature. Furthermore Hundertwasser donated the environmental poster “Save the Rain – Each Raindrop Is a Kiss From Heaven“ to the Norwegian Nature Conservancy Association.
“A tree is cut down in 5 minutes but this tree needed fifty years to grow. This is just one example of how quick and easy technology destroys what nature has been building up in a long and tedious process.” (Hundertwasser, 1979)
