Mighty trees in Oslo as a symbol for climate protection
29. October 2021
Hundertwasser planted one of these magnificent exemplars 38 years ago.
Hundertwasser designed and donated the environmental poster 690A SAVE THE RAIN - EACH RAINDROP IS A KISS FROM HEAVEN to the Norwegian Nature Conservancy Association. The press conference on October 17 was accompanied by planting trees in front of the fortress Akershus in the centre of Oslo. The aim of the tree planting was to draw the public's attention to the dangerous effects of acid rain on nature.
Planting trees is the most effective way to make cities more climate-resilient, to alleviate the increasing heat in dense cities and to improve the quality of life for residents. Quick action is required because trees have to grow for 10 to 15 years to achieve their full climatic performance. A large-crowned tree cools as much as fifteen air conditioners. Trees act like climate reactors, they form oxygen through photosynthesis and cool through shading and evaporation, they act as air filters and wind protection and provide living space for animals.
