KunstHausWien is open

A museum where you feel at home

06. March 2024
More than 12,000 people visited the KunstHausWien during the opening days at the beginning of March.

In 1991 Hundertwasser designed his ideal museum: the KunstHausWien. In terms of architecture, KunstHausWien invites visitors to experience Hundertwasser’s vision of a more human architecture in harmony with nature. On two floors, his unique world of colours dans shapes unfolds: the 170 master works on display are the largest permanent collection of his art in the world. “Tree tenants” housed in the façade, a rooftop forest and wild, spontaneous vegetation are the living expression of his quest for harmony between art and nature.

The new permanent exhibition includes numerous loans that have not been on public display for a long time. These include 83 Suburban Girl and 672 Blue Caps – Hello, Mr. Kampmann or the tapestry 124A Singing Bird on a Tree in the City (weaver: Hilde Absalon). One highlight is the new model ship "Regentag", which was specially commissioned by the museum from model builder Andreas Bodi for this show.
The painting 781 Green Town will be a crowd-puller. Hundertwasser noted on this artwork: “An urban architecture painting. The movement of pedestrians and cars takes place in the midst of grass and nature and tree-lined arcades. From above the city cannot be seen, as the roofs and level ground are also totally full of greenery. One thinks it is a forest landscape.”
