Hundertwasser's comment on the work
Grey fascinated me. The things you can do with grey! And then Brô's heads, too, the spindle-almond eyes high up on the round head, the nose-rivers and the boat-mouth. I had made a trade with Brô: I was allowed to paint his Brô heads, which he had from the mosaics in Ravenna, and in return he could paint the round soul-trees I had from Kampmann. It was two thieves trading their loot. Painted in Impasse des Sureaux (Elderberry dead-end) in St. Maurice, where Brô had a garage and where I and also Ernst Fuchs painted. Through the Bois de Vincennes it was not far to St. Mandé and the Dumages'. (from: Hundertwasser 1928-2000, Catalogue Raisonné, Vol. 2, Taschen, Cologne, 2002, pp. 255-256)
