Re-Planning by Peter Pelikan, 2006

The owner of the Kuchlbauer brewery, Leonhard Salleck, approached Hundertwasser with the request to take over the redesign of the brewery. It should not be about the production facility, but about an area that could become an additional attraction for the popular tours through the brewery, as a highlight in "Kuchlbauer's world of beer", according to Salleck's idea a "lighthouse" and an example of a more human architecture in harmony with nature.
Hundertwasser's design envisaged a 70 metre high tower, which, however, could not be realised at this height. The building department of Lower Bavaria and also the Bavarian department for the protection of historical heritage declared the construction of the tower to be unfeasible due to the dimensions and effects on the silhouette of the city of Abensberg, in which the tower of the brewery would have towered over the city's church tower.
After Hundertwasser's death, architect Peter Pelikan took over a redesign of the tower and other construction commissions from Leonhard Salleck, such as the Kunsthaus. The 35 metre high tower, completed in 2007, not only differs from Hundertwasser's original design due to its significantly lower height, but also in terms of its artistic character and in essential aspects such as height, proportion, shape and details. The Kuchlbauer Tower in Abensberg is therefore an architecture by architect Peter Pelikan.
