Hundertwasser's comment on the work
I have never made a spiral with so many metallic components: gold, matte silver, shiny silver. The spiral is my element, pure and simple. The spiral is the symbol of life and death. The spiral is located precisely at the point where lifeless matter is transformed to life. You can draw a spiral geometrically, too, with precise spacing between the circles, but that is a dead spiral, for everything which is sterile geometry is dead.
The evil spiral rotates to the right, such as the swastika: the good spiral rotates to the left. (translated from the broschure: Kunstwerk, Die Hundertwasser Ausgabe der Brockhaus Enzyklopädie, n. p., 1989, p. 18)
