Hundertwasser's comment on the work
This picture was exhibited at the Galleria Canale, near the Academy in Venice, and was sold to Peggy Guggenheim. I only got a small share of the list price, with the explanation that Peggy Guggenheim had only paid a fraction of the price. But from her I learned that she had had to pay many times more than the list price. So I paid Peggy Guggenheim the difference she had been cheated out of from my own pocket. For I was pedantically keen on keeping my prices steady. They were not supposed to get too high or too low. I even went to court if dealers asked too much. And this was never because of my share. My colleagues thought I was crazy to keep higher prices down at all costs. But I knew exactly what I was doing.
