Hundertwasser's comment on the work
While I was painting the village from above up near the "Nose", the ascent to Leopoldsberg, the air-raid siren sounded. I decided to stay in the sparse forest. Suddenly there was a rustling of the tattered leaves, and shrapnel smashed into the ground all around me. I held my drawing case over my head. I could have been dead. I brought a big piece of shrapnel home as a souvenir.
