Hundertwasser's comment on the work

In some parts of China where they have loess soil and also in the South of Tunisia there are very interesting villages which are situated underground - they are arranged around yourtyards which are dug in the ground like large pits. These dwellings are very dry and bright. One can imagine how hot it is in the desert in Africa, but when one is inside such an underground house it is so cool one needs a sweater. When you go for a walk over the village, you don't even see the village, you only see the houses if you look down now and then. It is very interesting: in order to see houses you must look down, not up. The advantage of these pit houses is the absolutely perfect air-conditioning; it is very cool even in the hottest African summer, it is bright, and warm during the winter months.(from: Hundertwasser Architecture, Cologne, 1997, p. 100)
