Hundertwasser comment about the work:
Moroccan gardens with red soil and green roofs. The roofs of the houses are green, of course they are green. For a house, grass is the natural roofing. Green grass grows most beautifully in red soil. When I was working on a farm, in 1946, I saw how brown the soil was and how green the grass, and I decided to become a painter. (from: Hundertwasser Architecture, Cologne, 1997, p. 10) When I worked for a farmer I noticed how green the grass was and how brown the soil. That was when I decided to become a painter (from: Cat. Museum Ludwig, Cologne, 1980, p. 158)
