St. Mandé/Seine, 1950

Oil and charcoal on white-primed fibreboard

580 mm x 550 mm

Painted in St. Mandé/Seine, probably March 1950

Hundertwasser comment about the work:

The painting had been hung in a gallery on Place St. Sulpice, but was taken down before the opening because the owner thought it was "trop marrant" (too hilarious). That was my first unsuccessful attempt to exhibit in Paris. (from: Hundertwasser 1928-2000, Catalogue Raisonné, Vol. 2, Taschen, Cologne, 2002, p. 182)
